While I love to sing the songs from "The Sound of Music," anyone who knows me well would never bet any money that I would actually start doing it. Hiking also wouldn't be at the top of the The Bills Family's list of "Ways to Spend Family Night." Our idea of exhilarating recreation would be snorkeling or bogey boarding.
However, we decided to get out of our comfort zone and join the throngs of Arizonians that hike all the little mountains that surround us. We decided to start with Thunderbird Mountain that overlooks the new Phoenix Temple. What a sight it was!

This picture was taken on the way down (the sun was beginning to set) because I was so focused on whether I would actually make it up the mountain that I forgot to take pictures on the way up! It was about 96 degrees and after spouting off for 20 years that I am morally opposed to exercise, there was a definite and real possibility that I might succumb to heat stroke or have a heart attack since my heart rate never gets over 110. I'm pleased to report that neither of those things even came close to occurring!
Here's our happy, sweaty faces at the top!

On second thought, Troy actually didn't sweat. At all. Seriously.
Basically, we had a great time. Even though it was hot, it was great to be outside and accomplish something new. This little mountain (which my Washington friends would call a "hill" and my Texas friends would call "Everest") was the perfect choice to begin what we are hoping is a new regular activity for The Bills Family.
This kind of exercise I could easily get used to. Won't you join us on our next climb?
