We live near a towering mountain. Just one. One towering mountain. You may be wondering, "How can there only be ONE towering mountain? Aren't mountains part of a mountain range?" Why yes, yes they are... except this mountain is so towering that the mountains next to it actually look like little hills. Don't believe me? Just take a look: ![]() On a clear day, this is what we see from the harbor. Just remember that this mountain is 70 miles away... Like I said before: TOWERING Quick Facts: Name: Mt. Rainier Elevation: 14, 411 feet Rank: 21st highest peak in the world It's amazing and breathtaking, and when we found out there was a ski resort at the bottom of it, we jumped for joy! I've been skiing since I was 10, and the boys have all learned too. We've only gotten to ski 3 times though since the closest mountains to TX were 1,000 miles away! For Christmas this year, we gave the boys snowboarding lessons. We weren't able to use them during Christmas break because of a visit from Sean's friend, but winter break came before we knew it and the boys headed up to the slopes! We only have a few pictures that Kent took as he dropped the boys off on their first day of lessons. I was supposed to ski while they were at lessons, but my recently fractured ankle made that impossible and I'm so jealous I can barely speak. Don't ask... all I'll say is that there was a puppy involved, a wet slippery hill, and me wearing shoes with no traction whatsoever. Yeah, basically in the top 3 of my most embarrassing moments. I digress... Sean and Troy each took a friend who wanted to learn to snowboard as well. They all came home after the first day very happy, very sore and very tired. But excited to head back up the towering mountain for day 2. I found a quote about snowboarding that ought to scare the daylights out of me, but I'm actually kind of proud that my sons inherited a little bit of the daredevil in them... obviously from me. I live life on the edge by holding on to a leash with a 7 month old puppy on the other end at the top of a treacherous hill in nothing but slippers...
"Snowboarding is an activity that is very popular with people who do not feel that regular skiing is lethal enough." - Dave Barry One of my most favorite church songs is a children's song that goes like this:
I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I know who I am. I know God's plan. I'll follow him in faith. I believe in the Savior, Jesus Christ. I'll honor His name. I'll do what is right. I'll follow His light. His truth I will proclaim. I strongly feel every word of this song. Sometimes I worry that I'm not living these words as much as I should. I hope I am. I try. With the attention the Church is drawing from all sides, people seem to be very passionate about us. Many times, in a harmful and negative way. I pray that those who know The Bills Family would consider asking us about our beliefs instead of getting their information from outside sources. I pray that those who know The Bills Family would see our works and judge for themselves whether they are those of Christians. I pray that those who know The Bills Family would approach us with questions they might have and know with confidence that we would answer them openly and honestly. We are not the perfect family, we are not perfect individuals, but we try to live what we believe. The Bills Family belongs to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We know who we are. We know God's plan. We'll follow Him in faith. We believe in the Savior, Jesus Christ. We'll honor His name. We'll do what is right. We'll follow His light. His truth we will proclaim.
