This week was so sick! Elder Bassett and I had the most success we've had in Lexington yet. It was incredible. New Years was a blast and I had a really great week despite getting sick this weekend.
The first thing that we had happen was on New Year's Day. We had a lesson with a referral. His name is Mike. He's Brother Verburg's neighbor and friend that he has been trying to introduce to the gospel and the church. Mike's son has always hung out with Bro. Verburg's son Cooper, and they've been really great friends with them for a while. We had an incredible lesson with Mike and Brother Verburg and he's really curious about a lot of things. He's committed to reading the Book of Mormon and during our lesson he had the best questions that I've ever been asked on my mission so far. All of his personal beliefs and opinions lined up with that we were teaching him and by the end of the lesson the concerns he had were perfect for starting the second lesson with him. He's a super cool and nice guy. Brother Verburg is really excited and it's perfect that we are having success with Mike so that Brother Verburg can share this experience with the ward as the Ward Mission Leader so that they can all get excited for missionary work.
Then later on in the week we had a 2 great lessons with Rashawn and the Shavers. They're a part member family and Rashawn who is 11 hasn't been baptized yet. Last week he had concerns about being baptized again and so we asked him to study and pray about it. This week I showed him my line of authority so that it could help him understand the importance of the Priesthood and he told us that he has felt like he is starting to get an answer from God about what he should do since he has been praying. He is a super smart kid and the Shavers came to church this week too! He lives with his mom and grandma and they are Less Active and have been coming back to church along with Rashawn! It was so great that they came. I wasn't at church due to strep throat though :(
My throat had been hurting me the past few days and when I looked at it Saturday night it was pretty obvious to me that I had strep. I went to the doctor and they prescribed me antibiotics and told me I had strep. I stayed inside all day yesterday which was a drag. Luckily I caught it early and the antibiotics will help me fast.
But last night my lips swelled up and my face got super itchy and turns out I'm allergic to Cephalexin.... I took Benadryl and that helped it go away but I had to go to the doctor this morning to switch my prescription which was a pain. But I got it all taken care of and I should be back to work after today! It stinks that I couldn't go to church because we had 1 investigator and 4 Less Actives come to church haha. Oh well.
We also had a breakthrough with Miriam! She told us in a lesson on Friday that as she has been going to her old church since she's gotten an answer from God that this Church is true, she said that she feels empty and like everyone there doesn't have the same understanding and light as her. She's definitely recognized that she needs to be here and she has been trying to commit more. She's had trouble transitioning over to coming to church here and I think that has solved it for the most part :)
New Year's Eve was so fun. We had to be on lockdown at 6 and the Gilbert Elders came to stay the night and so we had a good time hanging out with them. I had to talk on the phone with the sisters for a while so that we could do some stuff for the ward mission plan, but afterwards I was able to hangout with everyone. It was just a fun night.
Hopefully I'll be better by tomorrow so that I can have another great week this week! The AP's wanted to go on exchanges with us and so I'm going to be with Elder Willie for the day on Wednesday in their area which should be fun. He goes home soon so it'll be probably the last time I get to work with him. We should be having a lot of success with Miriam, Mike, and the Shavers this week. I'm so excited to see what happens! This new year has gotten off to a great start and I'm excited to see what will happen!
Hope everyone had a great New Year!
Happy New Years!!
Here is a couple of snaps of Elder Bill who came out to help with tree fall. He is an outstanding missionary. The work is very hard in South Carolina. We find service is one way to soften the hearts of others in the hope of finding someone who is more receptive to hear the gospel. In fact a retired Marine Corp guy came by and talk to us and helped. The day prior we moved some furniture for less actives. You just never know.
The last photo was taken a short time ago. On the left is Elder Root. They were like the dynamic duo!! Elder Root was on an emergency transfer due to an Elder sent home (never did hear what happened). Elder Bills stepped right up to the plate to fill in.
