This week has been crazy!!!! A lot has gone on lately.
I'll start off with the good/bad news. It's not really bad news either. It's just a quick change haha. So Elder Root and I got a call from President on Wednesday. He wanted us to come to the mission home to talk with him. When we got there we found out that our Zone Leader Elder Imlay had to go home because he had to have treatment on his back that hasn't been getting better. He'll be back eventually, but President called us into his office and talked with us for a little bit. He called Elder Root to take Elder Imlay's place as Zone Leader in West Columbia (it's like 10 miles away, and it borders our area) and then he called me to be the District Leader here. He gave Elder Root until Friday afternoon so that he could have Thanksgiving here and then the AP's picked him up and he was off. My new companion came from Anderson, SC (where Elder Root was before here). His name is Elder Bassett! Turns out, he's from Peoria AZ!!!!!!!1 He grew up in Peoria and his family moved like 20 minutes away towards Phoenix so his family is pretty much down the road from y'all. Another companion from Arizona haha! Although I miss Elder Root a lot, Elder Bassett is great. He's been out about 7 and a half months and this is his second area. He's a really sweet guy. I can tell that he cares about the people he serves on his mission. Every time I've told him about someone in the ward he would write down their name and put a note about them in his planner. He's trying really hard to get to know everyone here already and I think that's great. He's really easy going and we've been working well together. Fort Jackson was a bit of a shocker for him but he handled it great. He interviewed Pvt. Wolf for baptism.
Speaking of Fort Jackson: We had 4 baptisms this week! Pvt. Wolf, Waerenborg, Johnson, and Richardson were all baptized this weekend. It was so awesome. I had to work like crazy to get them in the font though. I had to get all their paperwork done and so it was basically like the week we baptized Pvt. Ryan except I had to do it for 4 people haha. I got it all done though and they were all baptized no problem, and I even got to stand in all of their confirmations. I took a photo of them all with Elder Thatcher's camera and I'll send that once I get it. Fort Jackson was great. Probably the most successful week there yet.
Thanksgiving was awesome too. Elder Root and I hung out with Troy Bangerter a member that always comes out with us. He's single and he's one of the best members in the ward that we know. We hung out there for a bit after Turkey Bowl and played monopoly. Then we all went to the church to have Thanksgiving dinner with the Briles, Hinds, and a few other families. Afterwards we played volleyball and basketball. Elder Root and I spanked everyone of course. We played 3 on 4 and we still won haha. It was awesome.
Elder Root was sad to leave but I knew he was going to be a ZL the second President called haha. He kind of dreaded it because he hates phone calls but I think he will be a great ZL. He's one of my best friends now and I had such an amazing time with him. I'm excited to see what he does for our mission. Being District Leader again is alright. I was on the phone from 9-10:30 but I had a good time talking with everyone in the district.
Elder Bassett and I are going to have a good week too. We have a huge Tri Ward Christmas activity this weekend at the church that we're inviting everyone to, and we have a hand off lesson with the Spanish Elders on Tuesday so we can start teaching this lady that they found. Apparently she already wants to join the church and we just have to teach her! I'm excited to see how that is.
I had a great week, despite all the changes. I'll send a photo of Elder Bassett and I and then some photos of the new baptismal font that we got for Fort Jackson, and also the photo of the old font when it died.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I'm grateful for all that I have and obviously for my Savior, Jesus Christ. Without His gospel and the ability we all have to change for the better and become happy, I would not be where I am today. I'm glad we can all soon celebrate His birth and that we can have someone to look to for guidance and comfort. Happy Thanksgiving!
